Just one of the many streets in the French Quarter. It's such a unique place with narrow, brick roads, Spanish architecture, unique shops and GREAT restaurants!
This is the Lower Ninth Ward. To the right of the concrete wall, where all the green is used to be a very large neighborhood. All houses. The wall in the middle of the photo is the levy that broke after the canal flooded and basically washed away the entire neighborhood.
Preservation Jazz Hall. A great place to listen to jazz and that's it. No food or alcohol is served here and anyone can go inside. It's just jazz all the time. Very cool!
The Palace Cafe. A great restaurant on Canal Street. Great atmosphere and great food! What a treat!
Bourbon Street at night. What an experience. This place is crazy on any given Tuesday, I don't even want to know what it's like during Mardi Gras! Definitely not for me but it was fun to see.
Pat O'Brien's, home of the Hurricane. A very potent, very large, mixed alcoholic beverage. I had to have one because my neighbor said so. It wasn't that bad, probably because I ate enough to soak it up! Yummy food here too. I even ventured some and ate fried alligator. And believe it or not, it does taste like chicken. Very yummy!
The famous beignets. OH MY GOSH! I love fried dough with powdered sugar...used to have them when I was a kid but these were even better.
My new friends Colleen and Julie at Cafe Du Monde. This is a 24 hour operation that only serves coffee, milk, hot cocoa and biegnets! Can you imagine? Anytime, day or night, you can get one of these scrumptious doughnuts! I'm glad I don't live there! It's way better than Krispy Kreme!
Stay tuned for more pics of our weekend at Newport, OR and California!
